Rules plus July 3
Basic Golf Rules:
· Golf is a game of honor … and as a golfer, it's your responsibility to know and follow the rules. The rules of golf apply to all levels of play, from tournaments and league play to casual weekend rounds with friends. Strict adherence to the rules is crucial in competitive settings. Always act with integrity and call penalties on yourself when necessary.
· If you swing at a ball and miss it completely, this is called a “WHIFF” and it counts as one stroke.
· You must play the ball as it lies. You're not allowed to kick it or move it to a better spot.
· No breaking or bending branches to allow you to swing easier at the ball.
· When you're in a bunker always remember to NOT ground the club in the sand behind or in front of the ball. NO TOUCHING THE SAND ON PRACTICE SWINGS! You can pick out stones and leaves and throw them out of the bunker.
· You can pick up sticks, stones, leaves, rocks, boulders, feathers, dead grass, or pine needles that are around your ball but make sure not to move your ball because then that's a penalty.
· You cannot break any growing thing to improve your lie.
· Identify your ball before you play it - if you hit any other ball but yours, you will get a 2 stroke penalty.
·
Water hazards (now known
as penalty areas) are defined by yellow stakes or painted lines. Lateral water
hazards are identified by red stakes or painted lines. You can play the
ball inside the hazard if it is playable or you can:
o
Drop a ball where you
played the last shot and add one additional penalty stroke.
o
Drop a ball in line with
the hole and the place you crossed the hazard and go as far back as you like
and add one additional penalty stroke.
o If it's a lateral (red staked) hazard you can drop within 2 club lengths of where your ball crossed the line of the hazard and add one additional penalty stroke.
· If your ball is lost or out of bounds, you must play another ball from where you last played and add one additional penalty stroke.
·
If you see your ball and
you think you can't play it because it's under a bush or stuck in a tree, you
can deem it unplayable, take a penalty stroke and:
o
Drop a ball on the line
that runs from the hole to where your ball was lying. You can drop as far back
as you want on that line.
o
Hit a shot from the same
place you hit the last shot.
o Measure 2 club lengths from where the ball is lying and drop it there.
· A hole is not considered complete until your ball comes to rest in the hole. Always ensure your ball is correctly holed before moving on to the next tee. You must make and count every putt.
Please learn these rules
and play with integrity.

April 4 notes, April 10 results.
Welcome to a new Golf season.... It was a great day to play yesterday... hope everyone had a good day...
· Reminder - $4 Play of the Day Fee each week, which needs to be paid at the time you pay for golf. Make sure you check your name on the sign in sheet.
· Reminder - You are responsible for making your own tee times each week.
· Reminder - Each week, regardless of what the play of the day is, you must turn in your scorecard so I can post scores for handicap purposes. On the days when there are additional tally sheets, keep them as well and staple them to your scorecard. After play, just put your scorecard in the jar on our table.
· Reminder - $10 of your registration fee goes towards weekly closest to the hole contests. So make sure you have a small tape measure in your bag, because you will need to measure your shot if you think you are closest; then write your name and distance on the marker.
· Reminder – If you have a conflict and are unable to play on one of the Wednesdays, our league has an option of occasionally playing on the Tuesday before, which will still allow you to be included in the play of the day for that week. (Just make sure to pay your $4.) However, if you play on Tuesday, you will not be eligible for the closest to the hole contest.
· Ringer Book … For the side ringer tournament, the most improved golfers will win. We will award winners in each flight. I will keep track of the scores the first several weeks, until everyone has an 18-hole score. Then I will put the ringer book on the ladies table, and you will be responsible for recording your improvements after play each week.
· New this year …. For our 18-Hole league players, for anyone interested …. We will have three or four tee times each Wednesday morning. Everyone will just show up and we will go out in groups of three or four; one group after the other. That way you will always have someone to play with. You can play with different people each week if you’d like. We can just mix it up and play it by ear. We will start around 10 a.m. during April and then move to 9 a.m. in May, when it is warmer. We can change times whenever we need to. If you are an 18-hole player and don’t want to do this, then feel free to make your own tee time and go out at whatever time you’d like. And, since we have these designated tee times and various ladies going out, if there is a player from the 9-hole league who for whatever reason, doesn’t have anyone to play with that week, just call the clubhouse and see when the 18-hole group is going out and come on up to the course and join us.
· Mike reminded us that as we win each week, our winnings will be put on the books and we can spend that money at any time. You are allowed to keep it on the books until the next season if you would like to save up for something special. Any special orders need to be in before the end of September.
· With regards to the club champ tournament for this year, we have decided that we will keep the 18-hole league players and the 9-hole league players in their respective groups. The 18-hole players will be required to play 36 holes for the club champ tournament and the 9-hole players will be required to play 18 holes. The 18-hole players will play their first 18 holes on Wednesday, September 4th, and their second 18 holes on Wednesday, September 11th. The 9-hole league players will still have the option of playing nine holes on the first day and nine holes on the second day or playing all 18 holes on the 11th. Also, on the 11th, we will be going out earlier in the day, probably around 9 a.m., to avoid the heat. And following play we will all enjoy a light lunch together!
· Reminder …. You must play with another member of the league each week to be included in the play of the day.
·
New this year, I will be attempting to complete and email
the results out each week; hopefully within a day or two of play. Results will also be posted on the ladies
league bulletin board at the course.
